If you’re human, when you wake up in the morning you probably feel an intense need to stretch. This is primarily because of your fascia.
WHAT IS FASCIA?
Fascia is a fibrous connective tissue made up of collagen fibers.
This tissue is super flexible and can withstand lots of tension.
However, due to injuries, sedentary behavior (like sitting
for thirteen hours per day), lack of motion, dehydration, NOT
STRETCHING, etc. a “fuzz” type tissue builds up between the
fascial interfaces of our muscles causing us to become stiff .
Hence, why you feel a need to stretch in the morning.

“FUZZ”
When we stretch this fuzz tissue “melts” away and we become loosened up. However, this fuzz tissue turns to fibrous adhesions and “fails to
differentiate the adjacent structures effectively [meaning they
get glued together]. This, for example, can happen after surgery where the
fascia has been incised and healing includes a scar that traverses
the surrounding structures.” This leads to a decrease in
fl exibility and mobility, allowing for further injury as muscle layers
become stuck together.

In this video Dr. Jay discusses the importance of working on your muscles regular using massage tools. He demonstrates upper and lower body muscle work utilizing a deep tissue massage tool (HYPERVOLT).
